Some more raw/unedited concept art. I planning on using some of these for a future comic at some point once I finalize the look.

A while ago, I saw @celestial-weiner-dog’s “voice of god” work of an angel-winged human-sized Keyttaton. I wanted to try my take on a demon Lockaton (created by @lunarian-lucas).

At first I tried tacking on a bat wing. Which is okay, but I felt the overall design was too stereotypical and uninventive.

I then remembered reading some fan speculation on the name “Mettaton” being potentially a wordplay on the name “Metatron”, who, in angel lore, is the scribe of God. Metatron’s infernal counterpart would be Adramelech, a demon who takes on the shape of a mule-peacock-human.

That’s when I decided to change the design to use peacock feathers for Lockaton’s design. I had in mind something similar to the look of Father Balder (from the Bayonetta games), which is probably the route I’m going to take for design later on in a future comic.
